Karl von Zglinitzki

Karl Alexander von Zglinitzki (born May 22, 1815 in Stolp , † August 27, 1883 in Hanover ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Karl was a son of the Prussian Major General Anton von Zglinicki (1775–1843) and his wife Henriette, born von Zitzewitz (1794–1861). His brother Paul (1830–1911) became a Prussian general of the artillery .

Military career

Zglinitzki visited the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . He was then transferred to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot of the Prussian Army on August 7, 1832, as an aggregated Second Lieutenant , and on November 16, 1834 he was classified. From October 1, 1841 to September 30, 1843 he was in command of the Combined Guard Reserve Battalion and rose to Prime Lieutenant in mid-July 1846 . From February 1847 to 1848 he was assigned to the Guards Sergeant Company. Zglinitzki was promoted to captain on January 17, 1852 as company commander. On May 16, 1857, he was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment with a dated patent and promoted to Major on December 22, 1857 .

Zglinitzki was transferred to the 1st Guards Landwehr Regiment in Königsberg on March 27, 1858 as the second in command of the 1st Battalion . From March 15, 1859, he was employed as a commander of the Fusilier Battalion in the 30th Infantry Regiment and on October 18, 1861, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . On August 13, 1864, he was initially commissioned to lead the 2nd Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 11 and on November 21, 1864 he was appointed regiment commander. In this capacity he was promoted to colonel on June 18, 1865 , and on November 11, 1865 received the Commander's Cross, 2nd class, of the House Order of the Golden Lion . During the German War Zglinitzki took part in the Main Army in the battles near Langensalza , Üttingen , Roßbrunn and Würzburg and received the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 20, 1866 for his work . Promoted to major general, he was transferred to the army officers on March 22, 1868, and commanded as deputy commander of the 4th Infantry Brigade . On May 5, 1868 he was appointed commander of this brigade and on September 18, 1869 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring.

During the Franco-Prussian War he acquired the Iron Cross II class at Colombey . He also took part in the battle of Noisseville , the siege of Metz , and in the battles at Villers-l'Orme (Ulmenweiler) and La Fere. He received the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross on October 19, 1870 and the Iron Cross 1st Class on January 6, 1871. After the peace treaty, he was put up for disposition on January 9, 1872, conferring the character of Lieutenant General with a pension . He died in Hanover on August 27, 1883.

family

Zglinitzki married on October 12, 1861 in London Marie Wilson (1840-1890), a daughter of the English orientalist Horace Hayman Wilson (1786-1860). The couple had a son and a daughter:

  • Paul (June 26, 1866 - January 10, 1940), Colonel ∞ Elise Madelaine Burke of Marble Hill (* July 20, 1873 - January 10, 1940)
  • Olga (1872–1879)

The widow married Frank Siller for the second time.
