Paul von Zglinitzki (born March 15, 1830 in Posen , † February 18, 1911 in Dresden ) was a Prussian general of the artillery .

Life

Paul was the son of the Prussian Major General Anton von Zglinicki (1775–1843) and his wife Henriette, née von Zitzewitz (1794–1861). His brother Karl (1815-1883) became a Prussian lieutenant general .

Military career

Zglinitzki visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . Subsequently, on April 22, 1847, he was referred to the Prussian Army as a characterized Portepeefähnrich of the Guard Artillery Brigade . After he had received the patent for his rank, he graduated from November 1847 to September 1850 the United Artillery and Engineering School . In the meantime, Zglinitzki took part in the suppression of the street fighting in Berlin in March 1848 , advanced to the rank of second lieutenant and, after completing his training, was assigned to the brigade as an artillery officer at the end of October 1850. In 1853/57 he served as a fireworks lieutenant , rose to prime lieutenant at the beginning of January 1858 and was commanded on February 2 under position à la suite to the 1st company of the combined fortress artillery division. At the end of August 1858, Zglinitzki was made available to the governorate of Mainz Fortress and assigned to the Imperial Artillery Directorate under Colonel von Kretzer. For his work he received the Order of the Iron Crown III. Class. Zglinitzki was promoted to captain in early February 1860 and transferred to the general inspection of the artillery on June 17, 1862 . As adjutant he served the inspectors general von Hahn and von Hindersin . With the appointment as battery chief in the 8th artillery brigade , Zglinitzki resigned in the troop service on January 16, 1866, took part in the battles near Münchengrätz and Königgrätz during the war against Austria in the same year and received the Order of the Red Eagle IV for his work Class with swords.

After the war, Zglinitzki was initially assigned to serve with Prince Carl of Prussia . Left in this position, he was placed à la suite of Field Artillery Regiment No. 8 on October 30, 1866, and from the end of December 1866 he was also active as a member of the Artillery Examination Commission. When he was promoted to major , he was transferred to the Brandenburg Field Artillery Regiment No. 3 (General Feldzeugmeister) in mid-February 1867, while remaining in his command . On February 18, 1868, Zglinitzki was finally appointed personal adjutant to the prince. This position gave him deep insights into the history of the court and the circumstances of the later imperial family.

During the war against France in 1870/71 Zglinitzki took part in the battles at Gravelotte , Beaumont , Sedan and the siege of Paris and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. After the Peace of Frankfurt he rose to lieutenant colonel in mid-January 1872 . After being released from his adjutant status, on October 26, 1872, he was initially commissioned with the management of the Grand Ducal Hessian Artillery Corps and on November 30, 1872, he was appointed regimental commander. In this capacity Zglinicki advanced to colonel at the end of September 1874 and his regiment chief Grand Duke Ludwig III. awarded him the Commander-in-Chief of the Second Class of the Order of Philip the Magnanimous . From December 31, 1874 to September 21, 1877 he was commander of the 1st Guard Field Artillery Regiment . Subsequently, Zglinicki was transferred to Altona under position à la suite of the regiment as commander of the 9th Field Artillery Brigade and promoted to major general on June 12, 1880 . This was followed on September 27, 1883 as an inspector of the 1st field artillery inspection in Posen . Zglinicki was awarded Lieutenant General on June 1, 1885, and on the occasion of the Order's festival in January 1887 with the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring. With the approval of his resignation request , he was put up for disposition on October 15, 1888, with the award of the Crown Order, First Class, with the statutory pension .

In recognition of his services, Kaiser Wilhelm II granted him the character of general of the artillery on September 19, 1891.

family

Zglinitzki married on November 11, 1871 in Dresden with Asta von Uechtritz (1846–1912) from the Nieder-Heidersdorf house, divorced Baroness von Sztankovics. The two sons Paul (* 1872) and Eberhard (* 1873) as well as the daughter Asta (* 1875) emerged from the marriage. Paul married Helen Maurina Nicholson in 1907 and later divorced.
