Ar or Ahr is a hamlet and a fishing place ( Swedish Fiskeläge ) in the parish ( Swedish socken ) Fleringe on the Swedish island of Gotland . The place is on the north coast of Gotland, north of the stony coast ( Swedish Stenkusten ) called coastal section between the bay Kappelshamnsviken and the Fårösund . Ar is located 50 km northeast of Visby , 17 km northeast of Lärbro and nine km northwest of Fårösund.

The company Ahrs kalkbruk AB, owned by Norrbottens Järnverk AB , used to be located in Ar . Remains of the limestone mining era can be found in the quays of the loading port, a restored limestone store and the quarry filled with water. To the south of the village is the blue lagoon ( Swedish: Blå lagunen ), a former limestone quarry that has now been prepared as a swimming lake.

Near the mouth of the Arån River is a fishing port that had twenty fishermen at the beginning of the 20th century. The industrial monument Ars kvarn is located on the Arån, which is the outlet of the Bästeträsks to the sea. There is also Ars fiskeforskningsstation ( German  fishery research station Ar ), which belongs to the municipality and is operated by the university on Gotland .

Ar is surrounded by the nature reserve Bästeträsk, which is planned by the Swedish environmental protection agency Naturvårdsverket as the core of a new national park, which should also include adjacent areas south of the Bästeträsk.
