The M2 is a combined cargo and passenger ship .

history

The ship was built in 2002 and used as Aranui 3 mainly between Tahiti and the Marquesas . It supplied the South Sea islands with goods and at the same time tourists could use the ship for a cruise. The route usually led from Papeete via Fakarava , Ua Pou , Nuku Hiva , Hiva Oa , Tahuata to Fatu Hiva and back.

In 2015 the ship was replaced by the Aranui 5 , which is larger and more comfortable.

In September 2016, the ship was flagged and renamed M2 . It is currently operating in the Arab world.

Technical data and equipment

Aranui 3 in Hakahau Harbor , Ua Pou

The ship is powered by an eight - cylinder four - stroke diesel engine made by MaK (type: 8M32) with an output of 3840  kW . The engine acts on a controllable pitch propeller . The ship thus reaches a speed of around 15  knots .

A total of four diesel generators with outputs of 216 kW ( apparent power : 270  kVA ), 320 kW (apparent power: 400 kVA) and two 500 kW (apparent power: 625 kVA) are available for the power supply. Another generator with an output of 500 kW (apparent power: 625 kVA) is driven by the main engine.

The ship has eight decks . The deck superstructures are located around midships in the rear of the ship. The lower two decks are designed aft for RoRo cargo. The ship has a stern ramp for this purpose . Passenger cabins and other rooms are located between the ro-ro area and the cargo holds in front of the superstructures. The holds have an intermediate deck . They are closed with folding hatch covers. The ship is for cargo handling with two Liebherr - cranes equipped.
