Arcadia is a city and also the county seat of DeSoto County in the US state of Florida with 7637 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Arcadia is located about 120 km southeast of Tampa .
history
In 1886, the year Arcadia was founded, the Florida Southern Railway built a railway line from Lakeland via Arcadia to Punta Gorda , which was integrated into the Plant System in 1892 . Today the line via Punta Gorda to Naples is operated by the Seminole Gulf Railway .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 7,637 inhabitants were distributed over 2,541 households. The population density was 727.3 inh / km². 52.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 25.2% as African-Americans , 0.5% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 18.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.6% to several ethnic groups. 33.2% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 25.3% of all households lived in 42.3% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 65.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.79 people and the average family size was 3.35 people.
32.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 15.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 31 years. 50.8% of the population were male and 49.2% were female.
The median annual income was $ 30,449, with 33.8% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 78.17% of the population and Spanish was spoken by 21.83%.

Arcadia is crossed by US Highway 17 ( SR 35 ) and Florida State Road 70 . The nearest airport is Sarasota – Bradenton International Airport (around 100 km to the west).

The crime rate in 2010 was 543 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There were seven rapes, 21 robberies, 68 bodily harm, 86 break-ins, 147 thefts, 14 car thefts and three arson attacks.
