Arthur Janke

Arthur Janke (born August 31, 1843 in Bublitz , † November 1, 1928 in Feldafing ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Born as the son of a district court renter, Janke studied law in Halle and Bonn after attending grammar school in Stolp . In 1862 he became associate of the Frankonia fraternity in Bonn , and later in 1902 their old man .

In 1862 he was a one-year volunteer with the Magdeburg Fusilier Regiment No. 36 in Halle. He decided to pursue a military career in the Prussian Army and in 1863 joined the 8th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 61 in Wreschen as an avantageur . He became an officer and after a short time in Kolberg Second Lieutenant in Stolp. With the regiment he went to Brandenburg and Spandau , after the Gastein Convention to Flensburg . In 1866 Janke took part in the battle of Königgrätz during the war against Austria and was then transferred to Thorn . From 1867 to 1870 he attended the military academy . In the Franco-Prussian War he fought in the battle of Gravelotte , the siege of Metz and Dijon . He was wounded in a battle near Messigny in 1871.

In 1871 and 1872 he traveled to Italy , Greece and the Orient . He became a brigadjutant and in 1872 office manager and librarian at the Engers War School . In 1873 he joined the General Staff and carried out topographical surveys in the Thorn district . In 1874 he became a teacher at the war school in Metz . He made many trips, including on behalf of the Great General Staff to Italy, Algiers , Morocco , Portugal and Spain . He was a co-founder of a geographic society . On his initiative, a memorial was erected on Granahöhe . In 1876 he was promoted to captain and in 1879 appointed company commander in the 7th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 69 . In 1887 he was promoted to major and in the following year transferred to the 5th Baden Infantry Regiment No. 113 as battalion commander. In 1891 he went to the Glogau War School as director . He traveled to Sweden , Norway , the North Cape and the Orient. Invited by the Romanian king, he visited the Russian-Romanian battlefields of 1877 and toured the war schools in Belgrade , Sofia , Bucharest , Constantinople and Wiener Neustadt . In 1892 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on April 18, 1895, while being promoted to colonel , he was commander of the infantry regiment “von der Marwitz” (8th Pomeranian) No. 61. In 1897 he went to Berlin and in 1899 was put up for disposition . 1910 Janke was awarded the character as a Major General and moved in 1920 to its retirement home to Feldafing.
