action
After the ten moons have passed, Arthur looks forward to his next visit to the Minimoys. Arthur passed the rite of acceptance into the tribe of Bogomatasalei with flying colors, Arthur is now a protector of nature. In contrast to his parents, who, out of fear for Arthur because of his insect venom allergy, hunt a bee with insect repellent, Artur saves the bee.
Meanwhile, the Minimoys are preparing for a banquet in his honor, because Princess Selenia in particular longs to see him again. But it so happens that Arthur has to leave with his parents despite a cry for help on a grain of rice. After a successful escape, Arthur can return to the Minimoys with the help of enchanted lianas and the Bogomatasalei. After a brief odyssey, Arthur is welcomed by the King and the Minimoys.
After an unsuccessful search for Princess Selenia, the evil Maltazard appears with Princess Selenia as a hostage in front of the city gates. Maltazard forces Arthur to send him through the magic gate with the Minimoys. Arthur can save Princess Selenia, but Maltazard escapes into the human world and grows up.

criticism
The lexicon of the international film said: “The sequel to Luc Besson's fantasy saga does not gain any independence in the staged mix of real film and computer animation and merely points to a further sequel throughout the entire evening. The clichéd figures of course hardly arouse curiosity about their future fate. "
The online portal cinefacts.de gives the film a positive rating of 4.5 out of 5: "The rich fantasy world around the boy Arthur and the tiny animated garden dwellers are once again ensnared with their idiosyncratic charm."
Kino.de writes: “The extraordinary animation offers a cornucopia of crazy figures and actions, all figures are based on a single, varying model and are completely different. The reference actors for the movements were allowed to really crank. Technically, this sophisticated fantasy world is impressive, only the heart and charm of the first part have been lost during the breathless trip through the possibilities of the CGI animation, which - unusual for a film - ends with a cliffhanger and acts like a transition point to the upcoming finale. "
continuation
The second and third parts were shot at the same time for reasons of cost. The third part (original title: Arthur et la Guerre des deux mondes ) premiered on October 13, 2010 in France and was released in Germany under the title Arthur and the Minimoys 3 - The big decision directly on DVD.
