action

The opening scene shows Moscow in 1985, with a hunt for American agents. Two years later, the drug addict Anna is a victim of domestic violence. Reluctantly, she then accepts an offer from KGB officer Alex. After a year of training, she will work for four years as a KGB agent under the direction of Olga. After that, she can get out and continue her life at will.

She is hired as a model for work as an undercover agent in Paris. At the same time she does various missions and assassinations. When she is exposed by the CIA , she agrees to work for them as a double agent, with Agent Miller as her reference person. In return, she is promised immediate retirement and a carefree life in Hawaii. Miller assigns her to murder Vassiliev. The CIA hopes his demise would lead to smoother relations with the KGB.

Anna kills Vassiliev and fights her way out of the KGB building. She later arranged a meeting with Alex and Miller and exchanged information stolen from both services in exchange for a six-month grace period. When she leaves, she is attacked by Olga and shot for her betrayal. However, she uses a body duplicate to fake her death and flee.

Olga confesses to Anna that she knew about their connection with the CIA and the planned assassination of Vassiliev. Both women pledged to follow the CIA's plan so that Olga could follow in Vassiliev's footsteps and later faked Anna's execution to deceive both services and make Anna disappear.

Reviews

“The Russian model Sasha Luss, who was discovered by Karl Lagerfeld in 2011, looks like a decal of the cool trigger-happy heroines from earlier Luc Besson films. But in contrast to Natalie Portman or Scarlett Johansson, it leaves the viewer pretty cold, a doll-like killer machine that even does quick sex in the narrow toilet without emotion. Helen Mirren, on the other hand, plays the chain-smoking KGB boss with thick glasses close to the parody, but at least quite amusing. "

- Krischan Koch, NDR culture

“The agent story, which is narrated in a complicated way, but basically quite unsurprising, leads the audience by the nose with many false bottoms and a fragmented time structure. The parallel guidance of the model and the murderess remains mere attitude and is neither narrative nor in a figurative sense of knowledge. "

The flick was praised for its unconventional, non-linear narrative style and the fast-paced action sequences - in the style of Luc Besson. Noel Murray from Los Angeles Times is enthusiastic about the "numerous back and forth shifts". He was particularly fond of the restaurant scene in which Anna left a mountain of corpses behind. Movie Nation's Roger Moore criticizes the film as a cheap copy of Nikita .

Gross profit

The film grossed around 30.9 million US dollars worldwide, of which 7.7 million US dollars were in North America alone.
