description

On an area of around 2000 m² there is an overview of around 200 domestic medicinal, spice and poisonous plants that can be cultivated in Europe . These are sorted according to the active ingredients and labeled with names. There is also a collection of dye plants there .

The garden has beds that have been planted according to ingredients that have a positive effect on the heart function, for example, or that contain essential oils. The plants grow in near-natural societies like a wet meadow with a pond. There are Mediterranean trees in the entrance area. The beds are provided with panels that contain brief descriptions of the origin, the active ingredients contained or the use of the respective plant. Around the pond there is a heather garden, a rock garden, a poor meadow and a field for test plants. A small open-air theater was built in the extension part.

history

The medicinal plant garden was set up for the pharmacy students. The garden was created after the completion of the pharmacy center in 1981. In the winter of 1981/1982, the greenhouse was put into operation and in 1984 the area was prepared for planting and the main paths were laid out. In 1985, funds were acquired for the medicinal plant garden and a gardener was employed. Then the first medicinal plants were relocated from the botanical garden . Further plants were obtained from Bonn, Münster and Würzburg. Plants from wild locations were also added. In 1990 the historical gardens were added, consisting of the Hortulus (herb garden) based on the model of the Benedictine monastery on the island of Reichenau, the root garden from the Renaissance, the medicinal garden based on the model of Pastor Müller from Stetten and the pharmacy garden for commercial cultivation from the 19th century Century.
