Aschot Anastassjan ( Armenian Աշոտ Անաստասյան , in scientific transliteration Ašot Anastasyan ; born July 16, 1964 in Yerevan ; † December 25, 2016 ) was an Armenian chess grandmaster . The World Chess Federation FIDE lists him as Ashot Anastasian.

successes

Ashot Anastasjan was 1983, 1985-1988 and 1990 champion of the Armenian SSR and after the independence of Armenia in 1992 (shared with Artashes Minassyan ), 1994 and 2005 national champion . He achieved further tournament victories in 1993 in Katowice , 1999 at the open championship in Paris and 2005 in Abu Dhabi . His last Elo rating was 2536 in December 2016, in January 2000 Anastassjan achieved his highest rating with 2606.

National team

From 1992 to 2002 he took part in all six Chess Olympiads for Armenia and achieved bronze medals with the Armenian team in Manila in 1992 and in Bled in 2002 . At the 2000 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul he achieved the best result on the fourth board.

He also took part in four world team championships for Armenia (1993, 1997, 2001 and 2005), with Armenia finishing third in Lucerne in 1997 , in Yerevan in 2001 and in Beersheba in 2005 . Anastassjan took part with the Armenian team in the European team championships in 1992, 1997, 1999 and 2005. Armenia won the competition in 1999 in Batumi , at the same time Anastassjan achieved the best individual result on the third board, after he had already become the best reserve player in Pula in 1997 . In 2005 he achieved the third-best result of the reserve players.

In the Soviet team championship. the Spartakiad, Anastassyan played from 1983 to 1991 for the team of the Armenian SSR . At the 1986 championship in Minsk he played on the top board, in 1991 in Azov , at the last Spartakiad, the Armenian SSR came second behind the Ukrainian SSR , which competed with Alexander Beliavsky on the first board, while Anastassyan had the best result of all participating players on fourth board had.
