Arshak Petrosian Bagrati ( Armenian Արշակ Բագրատի Պետրոսյան in scientific transliteration Aršak Bagrati Petrosyan * 16th December 1953 in Yerevan ) is a Soviet - Armenian chess player who works primarily as a trainer since the 1990s. He is not closely related to the late world chess champion Tigran Petrosyan . The world chess federation FIDE has it under the English transcription Arshak Petrosian.

Life

Arshak Petrosyan became champion of the Armenian SSR in 1974 and 1976 . In 1978 he received the title of International Master , and since 1984 he has held the FIDE Grand Master title . Petrosyan has been the coach of the Armenian national team for many years. At the 1992 Chess Olympiad (in which Armenia reached third place) and 1996 he also played as a substitute player, also at the 1993 World Team Championship and the 1999 European Team Championship . At the 2006 Chess Olympiad in Turin he was the captain (equivalent to the coach) of the victorious Armenian team around Levon Aronjan . He has been FIDE Senior Trainer since 2004.

Assak Petrosjan's daughter Sofia has been married to Péter Lékó since September 2000 , so that Petrosjan is not only coach and second , but also father-in-law of the top Hungarian player and 2004 World Cup finalist.

Petrosjan is listed as inactive by FIDE because he has not played an Elo- rated game since the 2000/01 season of the NRW Oberliga .

In Germany, Petrosjan played in the 1990s first for the Lübeck chess club from 1873 , later for the SF Dortmund-Brackel.
