Au is part of the municipality of the Küps market in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria .

geography

The village is located about eight kilometers south of the district town of Kronach in the extensive valley landscape of the central Rodach am Leßbach. The traffic development takes place through the district road KC 13 , which connects Au with Küps as well as in the opposite, northern direction with Hummendorf . The Franconian Marienweg runs past the place.

history

The first documented mention of the place was indirectly in 1290, when Syfrid de Owe attested in a document that Erkenbert and Irmengard von Kunstadt had sold five goods near Geutenreuth to the Langheim monastery .

As a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , Au became the property of the Electorate of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century . In 1862 the rural community of Au was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Lichtenfels . It consisted of four places, the village of Au as the main town and the three wastelands Krienesschneidmühle, Reinertshaus and Ziegelschneidmühle.

In 1871 the main town had 182 inhabitants. The Protestant church and the Protestant denominational school were two kilometers away in Küps. In 1900 the 128 hectare rural community had 209 residents, 185 of whom were Protestant and 24 were Catholic, and 36 residential buildings. The main town had 180 inhabitants and 33 residential buildings. The Catholics belonged to the Catholic parish in Theisenort, 4.0 kilometers away . In 1925, 191 people lived in 31 residential buildings in the village. It had had its own Protestant denominational school since 1926 . The places Krienesschneidmühle, 1.0 km from Au, and Reinertshaus, 0.5 km from Au, were now hamlets with 26 and 33 inhabitants respectively.

In 1950 the municipality of Au had 394 inhabitants. 287 residents lived in 38 buildings in the main town. The brick cutting mill was no longer a district. In 1970 the village had 270 and the community 316 inhabitants, and in 1987 328 inhabitants and 83 residential buildings with 119 apartments.

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipality of Au was incorporated into Küps on January 1, 1976.
