Auernheim is a village in the Heidenheim district in Baden-Württemberg . It belongs to the municipality of Nattheim .
geography
Auernheim has about 600 inhabitants and is 550 to 610 meters above sea level between Heidenheim and Neresheim on the Härtsfeld at the northeast end of the Swabian Alb .
Most of the Härtsfeld is a karst plateau of the white Jura of the Swabian Alb . The Härtsfeld more or less forms a plate that slopes south-east to the Danube. It is about 630 to 430 m above sea level. NHN .
Surroundings
Some dry valleys cross the Härtsfeld, almost all of which flow into the Egautal . The Egau rises in the urban area of Neresheim. It is fed by several karst upheavals, the largest of which is the “Judengumpen”. In periods of low precipitation, these springs fall dry, so that the Egau often does not have any water in its upper reaches.

history
Auernheim was first mentioned in a document in 1258, when Count Hartman confirmed the Hof zu Aurnheim that Conrad von Höchstatt had sold to the Neresheim monastery . The certificate was issued on March 15, 1258 in Dillingen .
In 1297 the House of Oettingen sold all its goods and rights to the Neresheim monastery .
“ ... a lordly mayor was placed in front of the town of Auernheim and local affairs no longer had to be dealt with in the town of Neresheim but in the imperial monastery . "
On February 1, 1972 Auernheim was incorporated into Nattheim.

Buildings
The most important building in the village is the Catholic Church of St. George .
According to tradition, today's church is probably the fourth that was built in Auernheim. When the first church was built is no longer known. The second church is said to have been built between 1141 and 1151. In the Peasants' War or in the Thirty Years War it was destroyed. The successor building had become "ruinous" so that it was demolished and on July 29, 1729 the foundation stone for today's church was laid. The building was paid for by what was then the Auernheim Foundation. It cost 5641 guilders. The oak wood for the roof structure was taken from the Heiligenwald, which belongs to the foundation .
education
With the primary school Auernheim there is a separate school facility in the village. Of the average of 40 children (as of 2007), around 2/3 come from Auernheim and 1/3 from the neighboring town of Steinweiler. Due to the number of pupils, the first two years are combined into class I, school years 3 and 4 as class II. This creates mixed-year classes with around 20-25 students.
The children between the ages of 3 and 6 attend the local Catholic kindergarten St. Raphael.

coat of arms
The coat of arms of Auernheim was only created in 1937 and changed in 1971. The previous coat of arms, black ox head on a silver background and the colorless municipal flag (black / white) had never been very satisfactory. The archive director at the Stuttgart State Archive had found that the form of the aurochs head previously available in the State Archive was very different. The colors are also not mandatory and not historically proven. A black ox head on a gold background had already been given to another community. Thus the proposal of the archive director, a golden aurochs head on a green background, was accepted as the new municipal coat of arms.
It is a so-called " talking coat of arms " that indicates the place name. It shows a golden Auer ox head on a green background.

Auernheim maintains partnerships with the Wildsteig municipality in Bavaria and the Breitenbrunn / Erzgeb municipality . in Saxony (since 1991).

- The Steinweiler Bike Team (BTS) built a biker track in 2005 . The property was made available by the Nattheim community . The Steinweiler youth took the initiative to build the building. In 2007 the route was enlarged.
- The Auernheim trailer was founded in 1996 and has meanwhile become an important part of the life of the Auernheim youth. The highlight of the year is the two-day "Summer Party" organized by the approximately 25 members . In September 2007, despite bad weather, the visitor record was exceeded, it is now estimated at 600 people.
Sports
- The sports club Auernheim (SVA for short) was founded on July 7, 1962 . The first division was the football division in the form of a 1st team, a reserve team and a B youth team; fistball, gymnastics and volleyball soon followed.
- On May 12, 1974, the 2.7 km long forest sports path was celebrated as part of a small forest festival.
