Looking for the G. (also: Looking for the G-spot ) is a German film comedy and a love story of director Sharon of Wietersheim , which is also the writer wrote, from the year 2009 .

In the main role , Max Tidof embodies the lawyer Max Burghardt, who is an egocentric and irresponsible family man in his private life and who has changed his mind as a result of the fear that his wife might leave him.

action

When Natalie, the wife of the successful and very committed lawyer Max, breaks a leg, she has to go to the hospital for a few weeks. Max, who has not taken great care of his wife and children before, suddenly finds himself under pressure. Now he has to manage the family, which is not really his thing. His hobbies so far have been his professional career and his Porsche.

It is true that he has noticed all along that Natalie did not seem to be completely happy with the marriage with him; However, he generously overlooked this "circumstance" and instead criticized her gradually beginning cellulite "through the flower" .

When he is now alone with the children and the family dog, by chance he finds many letters in Natalie's correspondence that a certain "G." has signed. "Who is this mysterious" G. "and why is he writing letters to my wife?" Max is immediately convinced that a rival intends to invade his territory and starts looking for the rival . Through research, Max finds out that the sender is a certain Gregor Teuthoff, who earns his bread by conveying general life tips to others in motivational seminars. Furthermore, it can be read from the letters that the addressee of the letters decided to end her marriage to her husband at the end of the school year.

Now things go haywire, because Max only have a few weeks left to win back the heart of his wife.

Max attends the motivational seminar "Be free!", Which is moderated by his supposed rival Gregor Teuthoff and asks him questions from the audience that should drive him into a corner, but Gregor, as a trained seminar moderator, skilfully circumvents the questions and answers these with general phrases .

Max is finally shaken awake from his previous attitude when his daughter Sophie tells him in front of her brother that she cannot imagine a worse father than him.

Max is pondering on a park bench about his future life when the motivational speaker Gregor jogs past and recognizes Max as a participant from the seminar. Gregor sits down next to Max on the bench and the two begin to philosophize. Max learns that Natalie told Gregor that there will be a marathon on the last day of school, at the end of which she will tell him that she wants to end the marriage. From now on, Max's life changes. He begins to be more interested in his children and begins to train in order to take part in the marathon. Completely subject to his own change of heart, Max now pulls out all the stops: He surprises his wife with the children at the bedside on their birthday with a violin that almost moves them to tears. On the day she was released, she realizes that he had even sold his Porsche, the car, which until then was always more valuable to him than his own family, and has bought a family-friendly station wagon that she can comfortably get into with her cast.

When Natalie arrives at home, she can't stop being amazed. Max bought a new dishwasher for the family household, which until then had always been pretty indifferent to him. He also provided flowers to decorate Natalie's arrival.

At the summer festival, where the school festival with the marathon is to take place, it becomes clear that Gregor was not interested in Natalie, but in the wife of his friend Lutz, who intends to move to Hamburg with Gregor and take their own children with her. Natalie was the recipient of the letters, but was only supposed to forward the contents to Frau von Lutz. Max feels a stone from the heart, but he feels for Lutz, who is close to tears, because this relationship drama could have hit him too.

The plot of the film comes to a happy end when Natalie Max confesses that she has withdrawn a large sum from the mutual account to support her friend financially. Max doesn't go into it any further and makes it clear to Natalie that such things are secondary in an intact family. Overjoyed, Max and Natalie embrace each other.

criticism

The production received mostly positive reviews: For example, TV Spielfilm judged with a thumbs up (best film rating): “The story of the wake-up call of the ignorant macho is not a stroke of genius, and Max Tidof is sometimes a little bit pressed. Thanks to the brisk direction, the instructions for happiness are entertaining fun with crisp banter - and not at all below the belt ”. The summary of the program magazine is: "The G-spot stands for very golden here."

Rainer Tittelbach appreciates: "[...] The film, which consistently works with clichés and signals of advertising aesthetics, has a high speed, but never seems short of breath [...]". The film critic concludes: "Dialogue, crisp details, a subtle, atmospheric soundtrack and a cast without mistakes ensure a successful search for the hard-to-find comedy G." ´

The lexicon of international film states: "Entertaining (TV) family comedy about a macho whose world and role image is permanently shaken."
