Joseph Augustine Di Noia OP (born July 10, 1943 in New York City , USA ) is a Curial Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Augustine Di Noia attended Cardinal Hayes High School in New York City and Providence College in Providence . He joined the Dominican Order on August 4, 1964 . In 1966 Di Noia graduated from St. Stephen's College in Dover , Massachusetts , with a degree in philosophy . On June 4, 1970, he received the sacrament of ordination . Di Noia was 1,971 at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC magna cum laude for a doctor of theology doctorate . In 1980 he received his doctorate in philosophy from Yale University .

In the following years Augustine Di Noia worked as a pastor . In 1984 he became editor of The Thomist magazine . Di Noia became Professor of Catholic Theology at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception of the Dominican House of Studies in 1991 . It was in 1993 Managing Director of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral of the Episcopal Conference of the United States . On April 4, 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed him Undersecretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith .

On June 16, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular archbishop of Oregon City and ordered him secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments . He was ordained bishop on July 11, 2009, by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal William Joseph Levada ; Co- consecrators were the retired Archbishop of Louisville , Thomas Cajetan Kelly OP, and the Archbishop of Washington , Donald Wuerl . Augustine Di Noia chose the motto In oboedientia veritatis ("Obedient to the truth"), which comes from the 1st letter of Peter ( 1 Petr 1.22  EU ).

On June 26, 2012, he was received by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed Vice-President of the Pontifical Ecclesia Dei Commission. On behalf of the then Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, William Joseph Cardinal Levada , who also acts as President of "Ecclesia Dei", he was supposed to coordinate the unification efforts with the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X.

Pope Francis appointed Joseph Augustine Di Noia as Associate Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on September 21, 2013 .
