The Bächental in Vorkarwendel is the Dürrach flows through that in the case in the basin of the Sylvenstein Dam opens. To the east the valley is separated from the Oberautal by the mountain ridge of Sonntagsspitze and Fansjoch , which leads to Scholastika (district of Achenkirch ) on Lake Achensee .

Locality

Legally, the Bächental is a town in the municipality of Eben am Achensee . However, the residents registered there do not live at their main residence in winter, as the valley can then only be reached on skis.

In the snow-free season, an inn, several alpine pastures and the oil shale quarry described below are operated in the valley.

Oil shale

The Bächental has been known since 1908 for the oil shale deposits in a side valley. The company Tiroler Steinölwerke Albrecht GmbH & Co. KG extracts what is known as Tyrolean stone oil from this oil shale . It is processed and marketed into medical and cosmetic products in Pertisau .

Bächentalbahn

The Bächentalbahn was an approx. 10 km long forest railway with a 750 mm gauge , which crossed the border from Fall in Bavaria to the dam wall of the water transfer to the Achensee (use of water power in the Achensee power plant in Jenbach / Inntal) through the Dürrachtal and the Bächental. Between 1930 and 1956, the railway transported wood from the rear Bächental to the Triftlände in Fall.
