Bad Santa

Bad Santa 2 is an American crime comedy by Mark Waters from the year 2016 . The film is a sequel to Bad Santa and was released in Germany on November 24, 2016. This time the criminals Willie and Marcus plan to dress up as Santa and Elf again and rob a charity in Chicago on Christmas Eve .

action

Willie Stokes lost his footing after serving in prison. He's disappointed in life and turned into a drunkard. Depressed, he tries to take his own life, which he fails. When Thurman Merman, who has just turned 21, visits him, he tells him that his grandmother has now died and that he wants to stay with Willie. This is not at all enthusiastic about it and tries to get rid of it again.

Willie receives a package with a large sum of cash from his former partner, Marcus Skidmore, who has just been released from prison after their last raid together 13 years ago. Marcus, who expresses sincere regret that he cheated on Willie, tries to persuade him to start a new "business". To do this, they would have to go to Chicago , but there might be two million waiting for them. Willie reluctantly agrees, but then sets off with Marcus on the trip to the state of Illinois . As soon as he arrives, Marcus leads Willie to a charity that is supposed to be the actual target of their raid. Willie is annoyed when he not only finds out this, but also meets his mother Sunny here. She came up with the plan to steal the donations. Since she herself is feeling the first effects of Parkinson's , she has lured Willie to her through Marcus. After Willie agrees with Marcus that they should only share their booty in pairs and that Sunny shouldn't get anything, Willie lets himself into the action. He has never had a good relationship with his mother and therefore does not allow her any of the money. In order to better explore the safe in which the donations collected for Christmas are kept and the access options, all three can be registered as volunteers. In Christmas and elf costumes, they now have to go to the street to beg for donations. Soon Willie is arrested for beating up another Santa Claus. He can clear up this misunderstanding and is picked up from the police by his employer, Diane Hastings. Diane's husband Regent becomes suspicious of Diane spending a lot of time with Willie. He hires his associate, Dorfman, to make inquiries about Willie.

Meanwhile, Thurman travels to Willie and arrives in Chicago. After he finds Willie, the latter places him in the charity's homeless shelter. Thurman joins the children's choir here, which is supposed to give a charity concert on Christmas Eve, exactly when Willie, Sunny and Marcus have planned the robbery. Willie manages to get the keys to Regent's office, where the safe is located, so that everything can start as planned. While everyone in the house is distracted by the concert, the three of them can open the safe in peace. Willie also hears the singing and is very touched by Thurman's voice. Meanwhile, Dorfman has discovered the real identity of Willie and Marcus and he realizes what the three are up to. He informs Regent who immediately calls the police. Meanwhile, Willie and Marcus are on their way with the money to Sunny, who is waiting with the getaway car. Here all three get into an argument over the booty, which was much smaller than they had expected. Sunny shoots Marcus and flees with the money. Willie follows her and can catch up with her. In their fight, the bag is torn open and the money is thrown through the air. Both Sunny and Willie are arrested. Since Willie is cooperating with the police, he will not be charged.

Willie takes a job as a janitor with the charity, where he continues to visit Thurman and accept him as his new family. He also visits the injured Marcus in the hospital, but he does nothing to him, "only" takes an obscene photo with him to annoy him.

criticism

Critics of the Westfälische Nachrichten stated that “a joke doesn't get funnier if you repeat it uninspired.” “Despite great actresses [...] this superfluous sequel focuses obsessively on breaking taboos from the day before yesterday. The most important things were forgotten: good gags and correct timing. "

Falk Straub from spielfilm.de said that Bad Santa 2 is a “sequel in the cinemas that nobody needs.” “Mark Waters comedy is a cheap and unnecessary copy with a thin plot, pale characters and only a handful of successful gags. The film is characterized by a sense of humor that confuses sexist and racist insults with successful punch lines. "

“Instead of wasting the time on an interesting story, you get hit with countless stupid and prepubescent 'poop-piss-cunt jokes'. And so it goes on for the next 80 minutes. Racism, chauvinism, Kevinism ... "
