A mud bath is a health resort that has been awarded the title “ medicinal bath ” and in which a mud bath with peat is used as a remedy .

method

As a rule, the bath peat is heated to temperatures between 38 ° C and 40 ° C. The effect of a full mud bath is usually attributed to the warming of the core of the body and the associated stimulation of endocrine and vegetative control circuits . Humic acids are said to be the effective agent in peat packs that only come into contact with circumscribed skin areas .

history

Paracelsus already recommended "moor" as a remedy for various diseases. After the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig, Napoleon's brother Jérôme Bonaparte had the troops set up the first spa with mud treatments in Bad Nenndorf . However, there is said to have been a mud bath in Bad Pyrmont as early as 1802 . In the 19th century , mud baths were created in numerous European health resorts, including Marienbad (1813), Franzensbad (1827) and Karlsbad (1836).

Since the start of the spa business in Ludwigsbad in Bad Aibling (1845), a large number of mud spa baths have been opened in southern Germany .
