The train station Bergen auf Rügen is the train station of the city of Bergen auf Rügen . There the connection to Lauterbach Mole branches off from the Stralsund – Sassnitz railway line . In addition, until 1970 the station was the starting point for a stretch of the Rügen small railway to Altenkirchen . It is regularly served by regional and long-distance trains of the Deutsche Bahn as well as regional trains of the railway construction and operating company Pressnitztalbahn . The station building is a listed building .

history

On July 1, 1883, the station was opened together with the first section of today's Stralsund – Sassnitz line. The facilities initially included a two-tier locomotive shed with coal bans, a loading lane with head and side ramps , a goods shed and a two-storey reception building in neo-Romanesque style with a post office. Just six years later, in August 1889, the station was connected to the branch line to Putbus , which was extended to Lauterbach in 1890 .

In 1896 a line of the Rügen small railway from Bergen to Altenkirchen went into operation. Since no direct connection to the two existing railway lines could be created due to their narrow gauge of 750 mm, the Bergen (Rügen) Ost station was built immediately north of the existing station for the small railroad . This received its own reception building and a goods shed. In 1970 this line was shut down again together with the Ostbahnhof.

After the Second World War , the second track in the direction of Altefähr was removed as a reparation payment . The cargo handling was moved from Bergen to Rambin . The space freed up by the closure of the narrow-gauge railway was used for the railway maintenance department and trains were formed on the tracked tracks.

From May 27, 1989, the Stralsund – Sassnitz line was electrified. Light signals were also installed. The level crossing north of the station was removed and replaced by a pedestrian bridge. From 2003 to August 27, 2004, the station building was renovated for around nine million euros and the platforms renewed. The facilities were dismantled. Two signal boxes are in operation. Since then, the entire station has been barrier-free .

The station has four platform tracks. Regional and long-distance trains on the Stralsund – Sassnitz line stop on the three continuously passable tracks 2, 3 and 4. On the house platform , next to track 2, there is stump track 1, which ends south of the reception building. The trains to Lauterbach stop there. Tracks 3 and 4 can be reached via a central platform that is connected to the station building by an underpass . To the west and south-east of the platform tracks are several storage and freight tracks.

In addition to the listed reception building, the buildings of the goods shed, the former locomotive shed and the East signal box, which are also listed buildings, are also available directly at the station.

Small train station

Nothing can be seen of the extensive track systems of the former small train station on today's Gingster Chaussee. In addition to the systems for passenger traffic, there were also tracks to the loading ramp of the state train station for overloading and a ramp for loading narrow-gauge vehicles onto standard-gauge wagons. The reception building and the goods shed are still there and are under monument protection.

Train traffic

Regional express trains and regional trains of the Pressnitztalbahn railway construction and operating company stop every hour at Bergen auf Rügen station . It is also a stop for all long-distance trains on the island of Rügen.

Night traffic

Until the 2016/2017 timetable change in December 2016, night trains ran to and from Binz. There was always a stop in Bergen. All these connections were only offered in the summer season and often only on Saturdays. From 2009 to 2016 the CNL "Komet" operated between Binz and Basel . At times it was only through car groups . Before that, Ostseebad Binz was operated by the class NZ (= DB NachtZug) in night traffic. From 2001 to 2007 there was a connection to North Rhine-Westphalia . From the direction of Binz these drove to Dortmund . They came in the opposite direction from Hagen . In 1999 and 2000 NZ operated from Stuttgart to Ostseebad Binz. Until 1997, a train from Basel ended with the D "Arkona" in Binz.

Connection

The train station is connected to several regional bus routes operated by the Vorpommern-Rügen (VVR) transport company via the train station and the bus station in the immediate vicinity . There are also direct long-distance bus connections to Berlin and Dresden from the bus station .
