The Venice – Trieste railway is an Italian main line connecting the major Italian cities of Venice and Trieste .

The line is operated by RFI , has two tracks and is electrified with 3 kV direct current .

history

The section between Mestre (near Venice ) and San Giorgio di Nogaro was opened in three stages between 1885 and 1888. In 1894 the section between Monfalcone and Cervignano , which was then on Austrian territory , was put into operation . In 1897 the line with the cross-border section was completed.
