The Udine – Trieste line is an Italian main line connecting the major Italian cities of Udine and Trieste .

The line is operated by RFI , has two tracks and is electrified with 3 kV direct current .

history

The history of the route goes back to the times of the Austrian Empire , because the government wanted to connect the capital Vienna with the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto .

In 1857 the Vienna – Trieste (“Südbahn”) and the Milan – Venice (“Ferdinandsbahn”) route were completed.

The Udine – Trieste railway line, opened in 1860, closed the gap between Aurisina (then Nabresina ) near Trieste via Udine and further west to Casarsa on the railway line to Venice with the bridge over the Tagliamento .

Was after 1860. 1866 Lombardy to the Piedmont-Sardinia was connected, even Giulia as a result of German war to the Kingdom of Italy connected. The route thus became international and the Cormons station became a border station . In 1918 the whole route became Italian.
