Balatonszabadi (formerly Fok-Szabadi ) is a Hungarian community in the district of Siofok in Somogy county . The district of Siómaros belongs to the municipality .

Geographical location

Balatonszabadi is located about six kilometers southeast of the center of the city of Siófok , four kilometers from the southern bank of Lake Balaton , on the left bank of the Sió Canal . The neighboring municipality of Siójut is located on the opposite side of the Sió Canal .

history

According to archaeological finds, the area was already inhabited by Romans, and there was a Roman road near the settlement. The first written mention of the place was found in a purchase contract of the Abbot of Tihany from 1299. In the following times the name of the settlement was noted in tax documents, according to which the residents paid taxes to the provost in Fehérvár . Until 1917 the place was called Fokszabadi (Fok-Szabadi), in 1950 the formerly independent municipality of Siómaros was combined with Balatonszabadi.
