The Beer Bitches (alternative spelling: BeerBitches ) are a vocal trio around the comedian, singer and actress Carolin Kebekus , who perform music in the Cologne dialect .

Band history

Carolin Kebekus founded the Beer Bitches in 2014 with the Cologne singers Nadine Weyer and Irina Ehlenbeck. According to their own statement, they had the idea for this in the backstage area of Stefan Knittler's P / op Kölsch show in Cologne's Gloria Theater .

Irina Ehlenbeck began her singing career with the St. Stephan youth choir in Cologne and performed as a singer with Kölsch rock bands such as Kasalla , Bläck Fööss and the Höhnern , while Nadine Weyer worked with the Höhnern and De Imis.

First , the Beer Bitches covered various international chart successes, including those of Lady Gaga , Beyoncé and Tina Turner , which they, with new content, sang as party songs in Kölsch. Later I also made my own productions.

The band made their first appearances at events in Cologne such as P / op Kölsch or your session . The Beer Bitches covered Adeles Charthit Hello at the carnival session Your session 2016 broadcast by WDR . The folkloric rivalry between Cologne and Düsseldorf carnivals is satirized in the song Helau in a humorous way . A video recording of the song was clicked over 1.5 million times on YouTube in a short time.

“Helau saw it at carnival / And roared through the room. / That would see me dat medden in et Geseech. / How can dat sin? / Sach mer: Are you not ashamed? / Helau saw the carnival .. / The carnival is in another hall. [kölsch] "

“Helau he says at Carnival / And shouts that through the whole hall / He says that to me right in the face. / How can that be? / Tell me: are you not ashamed? / Helau says it's carnival ... / Mardi Gras is in the other room. [high German] "

The band has been an integral part of the Cologne Carnival since 2016 . Among other things, they also perform with Krätze (Kevin and Grit) , the traditional Rhenish lecture singing.

In November 2017 the Beer Bitches held their first full-length concerts in Cologne. The first tour followed in 2018. The Beer Bitches are supported and accompanied by the band Loose Ladyboys during their live performances. As part of their first tour, the Beer Bitches also presented their first album Deck Opjedrage ( High German : Dick Aufgetzt ), which was produced by Pavement Records , a label that specializes in Cologne dialect. At the Cologne shows attitude event in September 2018, the Beer Bitches sang the doctors song Schrei nach Liebe and Loss mech en Rauh with Kasalla and Max Mutzke on the Cologne Heumarkt .

In 2019 the Beer Bitches started their second tour.

reception

Helmut Frangenberg described the Beer Bitches in the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger as "an unstoppable force of nature that would like to scare the male-dominated Cologne music scene with whimsy." He positively highlighted the presence of Kebekus, the voices of Weyer and Ehlenbeck and the performance of the Loose Ladyboys. The titles of the Beer Bitches are "a blessing in the monotony of the Cologne constant self-adulation that one knows from the carnival meeting rooms".
