Ben Street (born February 13, 1987 in Coquitlam , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team , the Binghamton Devils , in the American Hockey League plays on the position of the center .
Career
Street spent part of his junior years between 2003 and 2005 with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the British Columbia Hockey League . From there, the striker moved to the United States , where the Canadian enrolled at the University of Wisconsin – Madison . In his very first season he won the national championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association with the team that played in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . In total, Street stayed at the university for five years, but only spent four full seasons on the ice hockey team as he was suspended in the 2008-09 season due to alcohol and drug abuse. Ultimately, he completed his college career with 93 points scorer in 171 missions after the 2009/10 season.
After completing his studies, the undrafted free agent signed a contract with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins from the American Hockey League in the summer of 2010 . They first used him in their farm team Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL . Although he only played 38 games for the team in Wheeling due to his appointment to the Penguins squad and collected 51 points, he was appointed to the ECHL All-Rookie Team at the end of the season and named ECHL Rookie of the Year . The 2011/12 season he spent entirely in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins. Due to his 57 scorer points in the course of the season, he received a contract with the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League for the 2012/13 season with a term of two years. Street played mainly for the Abbotsford Heat farm team in the AHL during this period , but also played 19 games for the Flames in the NHL. When the contract expired in the summer of 2014, the striker joined the Colorado Avalanche as a free agent . The two years in the Avalanche franchise presented themselves similarly to Calgary. Due to an injury, he missed the start of the 2014/15 season and therefore initially found himself in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters . In the following year, which he spent as team captain with Colorado's new cooperation partner San Antonio Rampage , he only played 15 games due to a chest injury. There were also seven appearances for Colorado in the NHL, where he had been on the ice three times in the previous game year.
Street moved again in the summer of 2016. From his new employer, Detroit Red Wings , he was posted to the AHL at the beginning of the 2016/17 season as well as at his previous NHL stations and played for the Grand Rapids Griffins . Only at the end of the season did the attacker get his first minutes of action with the Red Wings in the NHL. At the end of the season he won the AHL playoffs for the Calder Cup with the Griffins . In July 2018, Street signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks and after that also joined the New Jersey Devils as a free agent .
International
For his home country, Street played in the 2004 World U-17 Hockey Challenge for Canada Pacific . With the team he won the silver medal at the end of the tournament, to which he contributed as many scorer points in six tournament games. There was a gate underneath.
