The Benediktweg is a 248-kilometer cycle path in south-eastern Upper Bavaria , which connects places of childhood and youth of Joseph Ratzinger (later Pope Benedict XVI ) as well as places of ecclesiastical and cultural importance in the region.
It was opened on August 17, 2005 and leads back to Altötting on back roads with little traffic and forest or field paths from Altötting via Marktl , Tittmoning , Traunstein and Wasserburg am Inn . Along the route, there are also references to remote places (for example Unterwössen , where Ratzinger spent his vacation several times at the Bischlhof of the Sisters of Mercy).
The Inn-Salzach Tourist Association is responsible for the construction and marketing.
