Benjamin Quirico (born January 13, 1988 in Budapest ) is an Austrian columnist , publicist and fashion designer with German and Hungarian roots.

Life and personal

Born in Budapest in 1988 as the son of a Hungarian engineer and a German nurse, Quirico grew up in the spa town of Bad Hall in Upper Austria. At the age of 16, he moved to Vienna , where he worked, among other things, in the famous gay and lesbian bookstore Löwenherz . In 2008 he began studying fashion communication and style at the Budapest WERK Akadémia. After graduation, I moved again to Vienna.

Quirico is openly gay. He speaks fluent German, Hungarian and English. He counts the works of John Waters , Harmony Korine , Max Goldt , Philipp Tingler and Thomas Mann among his greatest creative influences .

journalism

While still a student, he worked as a lifestyle columnist for the Austrian Volume Magazine, and since 2010 he has also been responsible for the magazine's 'Spotlight' section. Quirico has been editor-in-chief and publisher of Faux Fox magazine since 2012 . Furthermore, his contributions have appeared in various publications, including a. Oberösterreichische Rundschau , The F, Modepalast Magazin, Today and much more in 2014, it was voted among the best fashion journalists by readers of the Elite Magazin when it came to choosing Austria's 555 top fashion designers. Faux Fox Magazin took first place in the Fashion / Lifestyle Magazine category in the same election. Since January 2016 he has been a permanent member of the editorial team at 20 Minuten Tilllate.

Companies

In 2011, in collaboration with personalities from the young art scene, he founded a creative agency under the name Faux Fox as a platform for young talents from the alternative art and cultural scene. The quarterly magazine and the associated collaborations, fashion series, guest articles and interviews with personalities such as Left Boy , Lena Hoschek , Michael Buchinger , Laura Karasinski, Sophia Hoffmann , Gerard , Gotye and many others are particularly well known.

Between 2011 and 2013, Quirico, together with his partner Martin Dorn and the designer duo Mark & ​​Julia, ran an exhibition space for young European fashion design, which was known as a contact point for international media and the specialist press. So wrote u. a. the fashion critic Suzy Menkes for the New York Times : "[...] Faux Fox [...] has a lineup of talent, as rails are offered to fledgling designers to create a retail fashion collective, including a Faux Fox magazine."

In 2014 Quirico and Dorn acted as managing directors of the Favoritplatz boutique, which focuses on fair, local fashion design .

Fashion design

In 2012 Quirico founded a fairly produced avant-garde clothing line, initially under the name Schirach + Rosenthal, later renamed Szimon + Rosenthal. In addition to sustainability and fair production, the label advocates a tolerant and open approach to gender identity and social norms. Often the models in campaigns and fashion shows do not correspond to the common ideals of beauty.

Prominent carriers are u. a. Top model and entrepreneur Papis Loveday , actress Barbara Kaudelka , presenter Jenny Posch and musician Johnny Borrell from Razorlight .

Other activities

Between 2012 and 2014 Quirico was in charge of the fashion branch of the Akademie Deutsche POP as a senior lecturer in Vienna.
