The Berlin Linien Bus GmbH (BLB) was a composite of transport companies , the long-distance bus , both within Germany has operated as well as from Germany to other European countries. The sole shareholder since 2015 was the bus company Bayern Express & P. Kühn Berlin (BEX) - until then Haru Reisen had a 35% stake. Deutsche Bahn was involved through the BEX company. In 2015, BEX took over Berlin Linien Bus GmbH completely. In international traffic, there was cooperation with foreign partners.

The company ceased operations on October 31, 2016. Few lines were to be continued by DB Fernverkehr AG under the IC Bus brand , which then did not happen.

history

Berlin Linien Bus was founded in 1947; the network initially comprised twelve destinations. The operation on the inner-German lines was largely based on permits for bus operations between West Berlin and major West German cities ( transit traffic ) from the time before German reunification , which could be granted at that time due to the poor rail connections. According to Section 13 (2) of the Passenger Transport Act, the establishment of long-distance bus routes was only possible if they lead to a "significant improvement in traffic service" compared to the railways or existing bus routes. Until 2010, this was interpreted in such a way that long-distance bus routes in addition to existing rail connections in fact never lead to such a significant improvement. In a judgment of June 24, 2010, the Federal Administrative Court (BVerwG) viewed a mere substantial saving in travel costs as a substantial improvement that can legitimize a long-distance bus connection alongside a train connection.

After the liberalization of long-distance bus traffic in Germany in 2013, the company's range comprised around 30 national and around 25 international bus routes with a total of 290 destinations. The routes from Berlin to Hamburg and Munich were among the most important national connections . Further connections existed from Berlin to Dresden , to Cologne (via the Ruhr area ), to Frankfurt am Main and to Hanover , as well as to touristically relevant places, including the German Baltic Sea islands of Rügen , Usedom and Fehmarn , as well as in the Harz and the Bavarian Forest . In cooperation with other bus companies (mainly Eurolines ), trips to destinations outside Germany were also offered. The foreign destinations included Amsterdam , Brussels , Copenhagen , London , Oslo , Paris , Stockholm and Vienna . The number of passengers on Berlin Linien Bus in 2011 was around 750,000 passengers a year, around 40 percent of them on the connection between Berlin and Hamburg.

Companies in the network

Until 2015, the company did not provide any transport services of its own, but cooperated with contractual partners. The main task of Berlin Linien Bus GmbH was the management and support of the central billing office for long-distance bus services from and to Berlin as well as the performance of joint tasks, such as the billing of user fees for the central bus station in Berlin .

In addition to the shareholder, other companies with their own concessions were active in the association, e. B. Autokraft , Haru Reisen, Omnibusbetrieb Steinbrück & Busverkehr Berlin . Some companies also offered individual routes via Berlin Linien Bus. Most of the time, BEX and Autokraft used the routes of companies that were not part of the network in code sharing.
