Bernd Manuel Weischer

Bernd Manuel Weischer (born May 20, 1937 in Oelde ) is a German orientalist .

Life

Weischer was born in Oelde in 1937 . After graduating from high school in 1958, he studied philosophy , Catholic theology and oriental studies at the Albertus Magnus Academy Walberberg , the University of Bonn and the University of Tunis from 1959 to 1965 . In 1962 he obtained a licentiate in philosophy. In 1965, Weischer received his doctorate as Dr. phil. in the field of the Christian Orient at the University of Bonn. ! In 966 he worked as a scientific editor in Cologne .

From 1967 to 1970 he was a research fellow of the German Research Foundation . During this time he did a second degree in theology, religious history and Semitic studies at the University of Freiburg. In 1969 he received his doctorate as Dr. theol. at the University of Freiburg in the field of historical theology.

Lecturing

From 1969 to 1970 he gave lectures in Rabat , Fez , Algiers , Tunis , Tripoli on Islamic mysticism and in Asmara and Addis Ababa on early Christian Ethiopian literature and history. From 1971 to 1974 he had a contract for work with the Goethe Institute for North Africa (based in Casablanca ) and, as a visiting professor, held lecture series at the universities of Taipei (College of Chinese Culture), Karachi (Philosophical Department), Lahore (Oriental College) and lectures in Tehran , Isfahan , Shiraz , Meshed , Kabul , Islamabad , Rawalpindi , Kuwait , Doha and Abu Dhabi .

In 1972 he was appointed Professor hc of the China Academy (Taipei) and gave guest lectures at the universities: Hong Kong (New Asia and Chung Chi College), Bandung , Djakarta (Islamic Institute), Jogjakarta (Islamic Institute), Kuala Lumpur (Malays. Univ.), Penang (University), Bangkok (Siam Society), Kabul (University). From 1975 to 1979 he was a research assistant and lecturer for the Customer of the Christian Orient at the University of Hamburg , as well as other guest lectures in Damascus (Arab Academy of Sciences), Amman (University), Sanaa (National Library), Kuwait, Doha, Shiraz and Tehran (Universities) on Islamic mysticism.

After his habilitation in 1977 on the subject of “An Ethiopian Collection of Homilies and Letters to the Council of Ephesus (431)” he was appointed private lecturer in Hamburg , took part in the Iqbal Congress in Lahore and gave lectures in Tehran, Karachi, Doha and Abu Dhabi .

In 1979 he made lecture tours to Morocco and Senegal and took part in a manuscript project in Yemen . From 1980 to 1981 he was visiting professor at the Ain Schams University . From 1980 to 1985 he was a representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Tunis and was also on lecture tours in Cairo, Rabat and Dakar (participation in colloquia in Libreville , Nairobi , Dakar , Amman, Cairo and Harare). From 1985 to 1998 he was a representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Rabat. Lectures in Dakar, diplomatic activities; (Participation in colloquia in Dakar, Nairobi, Windhoek, Agadir , Rabat, Alexandria , Ankara and Istanbul ). From 1999 to 2007 he taught as a professor at the Faculté des Lettres et des Sciences Humaines at the University of Rabat.

Awards

On July 16, 1998, Weischer was awarded the Moroccan Order of Merit Ouissam Alaouite (degree: officer).
