The Bertolt-Brecht-Schule (short: BBS ) is a state high school in the Martinsviertel in Darmstadt . This upper level was named in honor of the playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht .

history

The year 1974 is named as the founding year of the Bertolt Brecht School. A few years later, the school received an extension that is seamlessly connected to the main building. Furthermore, the new Bertolt-Brecht-Schule was completed in 2011, with primarily well-equipped rooms for the natural sciences of mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry. This building is fully accessible from the main building through a passage. The school's large roof terrace is now closed due to construction defects. Due to the general bad condition of the main building, rumors about a new building in the same place occur again and again.

In 2012, the Bertolt Brecht School became the fourth school free of the armed forces. The Aachen Peace Prize was awarded for this in 2013 .

2013 was the Bertolt Brecht School scene of the German Go-Individual Championship, a result of which Lukas Kramer first time German champion Go was.

Surroundings

The Bertolt Brecht School is located in the Martinsviertel in Darmstadt. More precisely, it is located in the Bürgerpark and therefore near numerous schools and sports facilities. The central location ensures a connection with public transport. There are also two large parking spaces in the immediate vicinity that can be used free of charge. The Nordbad tram stop is only around 120 meters from the main entrance of the BBS. A large number of students come to school by tram . It is possible to arrive by H- and L-Bus.

Daily routine at the BBS

The first lesson begins at eight in the morning. Depending on the combination of subjects and the choice, students may have lessons up to the 12th hour on some days. The teaching time per subject is always 90 minutes, so there are only double lessons. There is a 15-minute break after every double lesson. There is no general lunch break and no cafeteria offering hot meals. However, there is a school kiosk which offers various snacks, rolls and salads.

Physical education

There are numerous freely selectable sports at the Bertolt Brecht School. At the advanced level sport is a five-hour credit course offered. If there is sufficient demand, there is also a three-hour sports course. Only those who have taken a three-hour basic sports course can introduce sports as a high school diploma. Most sports courses are held in the afternoon and only a few in the morning.

building

The entire Bertolt Brecht School consists of three different parts that are seamlessly connected. There is the older main building, an extension and a new building. In the school itself there are separate rooms on the ground floor for the subjects of art, music and performing games. In the new building are the rooms for natural sciences which are all equipped with a smartboard. The rooms on the first floor of the old building are used for the remaining teaching subjects. The school also has three computer rooms, one of which is permanently reserved for the subject of art. The school management's premises, a school auditorium (called the New Foyer) are also located on the ground floor, while the permanently open teachers' room is on the upper floor. The staff room is open to all students at all times, which is not least an indication of the close relationship between the teachers and their students.

exchange

The Bertolt Brecht School participates in various student exchange programs. An exchange with students from Poland is organized every year . This is an exchange with students from the international partner school Liceum Jagiełły from Płock . Depending on demand, there is the possibility of taking part in a student exchange with students from Australia .
