Birklein is a district of the market Pleinfeld in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

The wasteland is in the Franconian Lake District , in the south of the Spalter hill country and around four kilometers northwest of Pleinfeld. The north bank of the Great Brombach is about one kilometer away. Neighboring towns are Erlingsdorf and Allmannsdorf . One of the two sources of the rush trench that flows into the hamlet is located near the village ; On the neighboring hill Römerhügel to the south (489 meters above sea level) there are several burial mounds from the Hallstatt period .

The place was called Bürglein until at least the beginning of the 19th century . The former district of Allmannsdorf was incorporated into Markt Pleinfeld on April 1, 1971 as part of the municipal reform.

Birklein is connected to the district road RH 16 / WUG 18 via community roads. A bus line goes to Pleinfeld.
