Hohenweiler is a part of the municipality of Markt Pleinfeld in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

The village lies between Pleinfeld and Stirn . Hohenweiler is about one kilometer to the east from Großer Brombachsee , about two kilometers from Pleinfeld in the south, and Stirn is one kilometer to the northwest. The sandy soil is responsible for the nickname of the residents of Hohenweiler "Walinger Sandhosn" (forest sand hare).

Before the municipal reform of the 1970s, Hohenweiler was a district of Stirn. On July 1, 1972, the community of Stirn was incorporated into Pleinfeld. In 1998 and 1999 the village was renovated and the sewer system replaced. With donations from the Hohenweiler volunteer fire brigade and the approval of the Pleinfeld municipal council, it was possible to finance a fountain during the village renewal, which, based on the nickname, shows a family of rabbits peeking out of a hop garden and called Sandhosbrunnen.

The Sacred Heart Chapel was built in 1870 by the local community from sandstone and is used for Sunday and May services . The figure of Christ with a crown of thorns and the gilded frame in the interior are carved from one piece of wood.
