Curio is a municipality in the county Magliasina of the district Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino .
geography
The municipality is located in central Malcantone around 3 kilometers west of Agno in the southwest of the canton. The village is 556 m above sea level. M. on the south slope of 746 m above sea level. M. high Sciaroni (also Gheggio) above the valley of the Magliasina on the brook Riale di Molge . This forms a small gorge below the village before it flows into the Magliasina, which marks the entire eastern and northeastern municipal boundary. In the southwest rises the 813 m above sea level. M. high wooded hill I Mundínn (Monte Mondini), on the western slope of which extends an area of around 0.1 km², which is only connected to the rest of the municipality by a narrow corridor. Northwest of Curio lies at 588 m above sea level. M. below the Monte Lema on the southeast slope of the Motto Croce the exclave Bombinasco.
The neighboring municipalities are Aranno , Astano , Bedigliora , Bioggio , Croglio , Neggio , Novaggio , Pura , Sessa and Vernate .
history
In 1196 the village is first mentioned in writing as Coira , later (1298) it appears as Cuyri . In 1352 a church dedicated to St. Peter is mentioned. The municipalities of Curio and Bedigliora fought for a long time about Bombinasco, a hamlet between Astano , Bedigliora and Sessa TI ; In 1850 he was finally beaten to Curio. The current village church dates from 1609.
On November 4, 2014, a serious landslide from Malcantone occurred in the municipality of Curio , in which two people died. The road to Bombinasco (fraction of the municipality of Curio) was then closed between Astano and Banco .

The village is on a side street between Novaggio and Pura. This leads via Pura to Caslano on Lake Lugano , where it joins the main road 398 . Above Curio, a side road branches off that leads via Banco to the hamlet of Bombinasco. Another side street connects Curio with Bedigliora.

Personalities

The village of Curio has a wolf's head in its coat of arms. Legend has it that in 1885 a wolf terrorized the village. The residents decided to hunt him down. But then a fire broke out in a house where a baby was sleeping. The wolf carried the baby out of the burning house.
