history

The first written mention of Borzechowos goes back to the year 1241.

It is assumed that the place name Borzechowo is composed of the name of a previous knight family who owned the place and the suffix -owo . Another theory is based on the fact that Borzechowo is derived from the Polish word bór (German: high forest ). This thesis is confirmed by its location in the middle of the forest.

The town had 563 inhabitants in 1852, 753 in 1905 and 706 in 1910. The manor district was converted into the rural community Forsteck (pl .: Nowe Borzechowo ) in 1909 .

From 1975 to 1998 Borzechowo was part of the Gdansk Voivodeship .

Renaming

  • before assignment to Poland on January 10, 1920: Bordzichow
  • until the Second World War : Borzechowo
  • again in September 1939: Bordzichow
  • from October 26, 1939 (accession to the German Reich): Bordsichau
  • on June 25, 1942 renamed: Borchau
  • again after the end of the war: Borzechowo

religion

In 1565 a Catholic chapel was built on the largest of the three islands in Jezioro Borzechowskie Wielkie (Great Bordzichower Lake) . After its destruction, a new Catholic chapel was built in the village in 1733. When it burned down completely in 1833, a Protestant church was built on its foundation walls that same year. The Catholics were parish in Hoch Stüblau until 1945.

During the Second World War, one of the three former church towers was destroyed and not rebuilt. After 1945 there were only a few Protestants in the village, so that today the church is the church of the Catholic village parish of the St. Anna parish.

Borzechowo has had a cemetery since 1945. Before that, the dead were buried in Osowo Leśne ( Ossowo ).
