On June 28, 1999 the "Eurokombi KGaA" started a connection of the combined cargo traffic (KLV) from Hamburg / Bremerhaven to Munich under the name "Munich-Shuttle". The traction was provided by the railways and transport companies Elbe-Weser (EVB). " Eurogate Intermodal" (formerly Eurokombi KGaA), " European Rail Shuttle " and "KEP Logistik" (merged into TX Logistik AG) founded a combined cargo transport network on June 26, 2000, marketed under the name boxXpress.de . At the beginning the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven were connected with Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Munich; the weekly capacity was 1,800 TEU . BoxXpress.de GmbH was finally founded on November 16, 2001. The approval as RU in freight transport has been in effect since May 7, 2003 and is valid until May 31, 2018. The company started with a weekly transport capacity of 2,720 TEU, which was expanded to over 7,000 TEU by 2006. On September 6, 2004, the company's headquarters were relocated to Hamburg. From February 1, 2005, Mainz was served by the seaports on working days. This was discontinued on December 10, 2006 and instead Ulm and Regensburg were added to the network. Regensburg has not been served since July 1, 2008. The company currently offers an annual transport capacity of approx. 385,000 TEU and is thus able to cover around 6% of the total TEU volume in Germany.
