The city of Braintree is a city in Norfolk County , Massachusetts , United States . At the 2007 census, the population was 34,422. Braintree is located in the Greater Boston , has access to the Red Line of public transport of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and is a member of the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission's South Shore Coalition .

Braintree is located in the northeastern United States and eastern Massachusetts, about 20 km south of Boston .
According to the United States Census Bureau , the area of the city is 37.6 km², of which 36 km² are land and 1.6 km² (4.34%) are water. The waters include Pond Meadow Park and Sunset Lake, among others.
history
The town of Braintree was founded in 1640 and named after the English town of Braintree . The land belonging to the urban area was later divided into the parishes of Randolph , Holbrook and Quincy and parts of Milton . The northern district of Braintree, which now makes up the main part of the city of Quincy, was the birthplace of the American Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams as well as the politician John Hancock and General Sylvanus Thayer , the "father of West Point ".
The infamous murders that led to the trial of Sacco and Vanzetti took place in Braintree in 1920 . The co-inventor of the telephone , Thomas A. Watson , spent his retirement here.
Braintree's population grew by more than 50% in the 1920s.

In January 2008, Braintree changed its form of government from the " Representative Town Meeting " to the " Mayor-Council Government " (literally: Mayor's Council Government ). Braintree is officially a city, but it adopted a municipal statute, which came into force in 2008 and defines the form of government as the "Mayor-Council Government". Braintree is considered a City under the laws of Massachusetts . The first and current Mayor of Braintree is Joseph Sullivan.

According to the 2000 census , Braintree was home to 33,828 people, there were 12,652 households and 8,907 families in the city. The population density was 939.6 people per km ². The composition of the population was: 93.96% " White ", 1.18% " African American ", 0.11% " Indigenous Americans ", 3.14% " Asians ", 0.03% " Pacific Islanders ", 0, 64% " other races " and 0.95% " two or more races ". 1.16% of the population were " Hispanics or Latinos ".
Children up to the age of 18 lived in 29.6% of households, 55.4% of households were made up of married couples, 11.7% had a female householder without a husband, and 29.6% were non-families. 24.4% of all households were single-person households and there were people over 65 years of age living in 11.9% of all households. The average household size was 2.61 people, the average family size 3.16 people.
22.5% of the population were younger than 18 years, 6.5% between 18 and 24 years old, 28.9% between 25 and 44 years old, 24% between 45 and 64 years old and 18.1% 65 years old and older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 women there were 89.1 men. For every 100 women who were 18 years of age or older, there were 84.4 men.
The median household income in the city was estimated at $ 74,360 in 2007 and the median family income was $ 90,590. Males had a median income of $ 49,607 compared to a median income of $ 36,034 for women. The city's per capita income was $ 28,683. About 2.1% of families and 3.8% of the population had an income below the poverty line , including 4.6% of those under the age of 18 and 3.3% of those 65 and over.

Braintree is located in the Greater Boston metropolitan area , which has excellent rail and air connections and excellent connections to highways . The Massachusetts Route 128 and Interstate 95 divide the region into inner and outer zones. These are connected by numerous roads with each other, leading directly to Logan International Airport , Boston Harbor , and to intermodal transport facilities of Boston lead.
The major highways in Braintree are Interstate 93 and Massachusetts Route 3, and Massachusetts Route 37 and Massachusetts Route 53 . Coming from the north, the I-93, the US Highway 1 and the Massachusetts Route 3 all run parallel from Boston and only split in Braintree: The Massachusetts Route 3 runs as the Pilgrims Highway east towards Cape Cod , the I-93 and US Highway 1 leads east to Massachusetts Route 128.
From the Union Street station, commuter trains on the Middleboro / Plymouth Line run to South Station in Boston. Trains of the MBTA Red Line also stop at the station. Greenbush Line trains have been running since late 2007 and stop at the Quincy Avenue station in East Braintree.
Braintree is a member of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), which has bus services to the MBTA train stations of Quincy Adams , Quincy Center , Braintree and Ashmont . The MBTA also provides THE RIDE transport system for elderly and disabled people.
Most of Braintree's residents use Logan International Airport in Boston. Norwood Memorial Airport is also located in Norfolk County , a relief airport with two taxiways that is also easily accessible from Braintree.
