British Salmson was a British automobile brand owned by Aero Engines Ltd. was made in London 1934-1939. For financial reasons, importing the vehicles from France was no longer profitable. The parent company Salmson therefore decided to set up its own production facility in London, which in addition to automobiles also built an aircraft engine (hence the company's name).

Based on the S4C model of the French parent company, a 12/55 hp and a 12/70 hp model, each with a four-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts , were offered from 1934 . In 1937 the more powerful car was replaced by a 14 hp model. In 1936–1939, a six-cylinder model based on the same model, the 20/90 hp, was also manufactured.

British Salmson obtained the vehicle bodies from various British bodywork companies , in particular Newns , REAL , Ranalah and Whittingham & Mitchel . In terms of automotive history, some aerodynamically designed hatchback sedans with a total of six side windows and a sloping rear, which Whittingham & Mitchel built on S4D chassis from 1937 onwards, are of particular interest.

In 1939, the production of the sporty vehicles was stopped again, while in France Salmson cars were made until 1957.
