Whitwood Monocars Ltd. was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Portsmouth company began manufacturing automobiles in 1934. The brand name was Whitwood . The designer was NF Wood, one of the directors of the motorcycle manufacturer Osborn Engineering Company . Production also took place in their branch in Portsmouth. Production ended in 1936. A total of six copies were made.

The only model was the Monocar . It was a single lane wagon with two support wheels. The vehicle offered space for two people in a row. Initially, the engine was mounted under the front seat. From 1935 the engine was in the rear. At the same time the steering was changed. There was a choice of three versions, which differed in the engines. The Devon had a single cylinder engine with OHV valve control and 250 cm³ displacement , the York a single cylinder engine with side valves and 500 cm³ displacement and the Rutland a V2 engine with side valves and 1000 cm³ displacement.
