Bryan Bickell (born March 9, 1986 in Orono , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The left winger played over 450 games in the National Hockey League from 2007 to 2017 , most of them for the Chicago Blackhawks , with whom he won the Stanley Cup three times . At the age of 31 he ended his active career following the 2016/17 season after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November 2016 .

Career

Bryan Bickell began his career as a hockey player in Canada's top junior league, Ontario Hockey League , where he played for the Ottawa 67’s and Windsor Spitfires from 2002 to 2006 . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the second round as a total of 41st player by the Chicago Blackhawks .

For the Blackhawks he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2006/07 season , scoring two goals in three games. The attacker spent the rest of the season with their farm team from the American Hockey League (AHL), the Norfolk Admirals . In the 2007/08 season , the right-shooter was four more times for the Blackhawks in the NHL on the ice, but he failed to score a point. In the rest of the season he ran as well as in the following season for their new AHL farm team, the Rockford IceHogs .

The 2009/10 season spent mostly Bickell at the Rockford IceHogs, but he also came to 20 appearances for the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL, scoring five points. In the 2010/11 season he made the final jump into the NHL roster of the Blackhawks.

In June 2016, Bickell and Teuvo Teräväinen were handed over to the Carolina Hurricanes , which in return sent a second-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and a third-round vote for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft to Chicago.

Shortly after the start of the new season in Carolina, Bickell was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November 2016 . He then took a break from sport, but only returned to the AHL at the end of the season, to the Charlotte Checkers , and a little later for the last two NHL games to the Hurricanes. Following the 2016/17 season, the attacker announced the end of his playing career.
