The Burgstall Blumenstein is an abandoned hilltop castle from the 12th or 13th century near Zierenberg in the Hessian district of Kassel .
Geographical location
The small castle Blumenstein stood in the northern part of the Habichtswald Nature Park 2.8 km east-southeast of Zierenberg . It was located between Hohem ( 578.7 m ) and Kleinem Dörnberg ( 481.6 m ) near the Zierenberg hamlets of Friedrichstein and Heilerbach on the edge of the upper valley of the small Heilerbach, an eastern tributary of the warmth . A bare basalt rock resembling a church (approx. 390 m above sea level ), known as the “Wichtelkirche”, served as the location.
history
The builders of the castle were the lords of Blumenstein, lords of the Landgraves of Hesse, mentioned for the first time in 1213 and for the last time in 1445 . The castle is mentioned in 1386 as "already in ruins" and in 1430 as "just desolate". Nothing has been preserved of it apart from traces of mortar and broken bricks. At the foot of the rock, under thick hedges, there are remains of a wall and ditch.
About 300 m southwest of the Wichtelkirche, ceramic shards were found in the meadow area, evidence of an abandoned settlement, the deserted Blumenstein. The settlement was mentioned in 1308 and 1386.
