Carl Goerdeler Prize

The Carl Goerdeler Prize is awarded for innovative work and achievements in the field of local science and local politics .

Foundation, endowment

At the end of the 1990s , Leipzig's Lord Mayor Hinrich Lehmann-Grube suggested the creation of Carl Goerdeler Prizes in recognition of the former OB colleague and resistance fighter against National Socialism . The Municipal Science Prize has been awarded since 1999 and is awarded to sociologists, economists, philosophers and lawyers.

The Carl Goerdeler Prize is given to young academics for outstanding dissertations or Ph.D. -Work in the field of communal science awarded. This is intended to strengthen democracy at the local and regional level in German society.

Since 2016, the practice-oriented prize for local politics and international understanding has also been awarded every two years . It honors outstanding achievements in municipal administrative practice in Europe. The award is intended to promote peaceful cooperation between regional and local authorities in Europe that unites people and promotes mutual learning for the benefit of the residents.

Individuals, institutions and projects can apply for the calls for tenders that take place each summer.

The Carl and Anneliese Goerdeler Foundation awards the prizes annually in cooperation with the city of Leipzig and well-known public institutions and universities, including B .:

The prize is awarded in Leipzig on February 2nd, the anniversary of Carl Goerdeler's death (2018 by the Lord Mayor of Leipzig, Mr. Burkhard Jung , and the spokesman for the Foundation's Board of Trustees, Rainer Goerdeler ).

Both prizes are endowed with 2000 euros in 2018 .

The winners are selected by a supraregional jury with the participation of a member of the foundation and the city of Leipzig.
