Challenge Cup 2008/09 (men)

The 2008/09 season of the Challenge Cup began with the first round on October 11, 2008 and ended with the final on March 22, 2009. Arkasspor İzmir from Turkey won the final in its own hall against the Polish club Jastrzębski Węgiel .

The first two rounds were played in the knockout system with two legs. In the event of a tie there was an additional decision set. In the third round, the sixteen winners of the second round were joined by the teams that were eliminated in the first round of the CEV Cup . Up to and including the quarter-finals, the knockout system continued with a return leg. The winners of the quarterfinals qualified for the Final Four in Izmir .

Moers and Tel Aviv reached the second round without a fight, as their opponents Odzak and Bratislava did not play for the games. In the duels Nikšić - Geneva, Fonte Bastardo - Podgorica and Tampere - Belgrade both games took place in Switzerland, Portugal and Finland respectively.
