During her studies, she worked as a tour guide for the Society for Academic Travel .
After completing her studies, Charlotte Peter successfully applied as an assistant at the American University of Kansas , where she earned the funds for her first big trip through Japan and India . After her return, she worked as a ghostwriter and journalist. She was several times the participants at the International Frühschoppen of Werner Höfer .

At the end of February 1980, they resigned together after “the two of them broke up in a guerrilla war”. Until February 1981, Peter was the “consulting editor-in-chief” (under the new editor-in-chief René Bortolani) and until the merger of annabelle with femina and the departure of René Bortolani at the end of August 1982, editor of the travel department and travel reporter of the Jean Frey Group , Wollenberger wrote until his column on his serious illness in mid-May 1980. Peter also worked for Swiss television and was responsible for a travel program for young people, wrote as a freelance journalist for the Züri-Woche and from time to time reports for the Weltwoche and the balance sheet .

She has authored numerous books in which she reports on her experiences from around the world and gives lectures.
Peters travel books are characterized by respect and interest in the country visited and its inhabitants. She is against not visiting countries like Burma or the Soviet Union or today still North Korea for political reasons, because this would “additionally punish the population”, who also “depend on uncensored information from visitors”. For her travels, she has received permission to use two Swiss passports in order to avoid difficulties when entering the country because of the entry of countries that are not acceptable to one side or the other.
