Christian Bau (born January 14, 1971 in Offenburg - Zunsweier ) is a German chef . He is head chef at the Victor's Fine Dining by Christian Bau restaurant in Perl-Nennig , which has been awarded three Michelin stars .

Professional background

After completing his apprenticeship as a chef in Achern , Bau cooked in the Talmühle hotel and restaurant in Sasbachwalden in 1991 and did basic military service in the officers' mess in Achern until 1992. In 1992 he went to the Le Canard restaurant in Offenburg.

In 1993 he moved to Harald Wohlfahrts Restaurant Schwarzwaldstube in Baiersbronn , where he became sous chef . 1997 Bau acquired the master craftsman's certificate .

Christian Bau has been the head chef at the Victor's Fine Dining by Christian Bau restaurant (formerly Victor's Gourmet Restaurant Schloss Berg ) at Schloss Berg in Perl-Nennig since April 1998 . His culinary art has received numerous awards: in 1998 Der Feinschmecker magazine named him Newcomer of the Year, and in 2005 he was named Chef of the Year. Baus Restaurant received its first Michelin star in 1998, and with its third Michelin star in 2005 it became one of the highest-rated restaurants in Germany. In 2018, Bau was seen for the first time in an episode of the Kitchen Impossible TV series .

In October 2018, Bau was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his services as "Master of culinary culture and culinary ambassador of Germany". In a reaction, Bau complained that top cuisine in Germany was not as valued as in other countries, especially by politicians. In March 2019, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries named Christian Bau an Honorary Ambassador for Japanese Cuisine. He was the first German and the third European to receive the award. The official inauguration took place in June during an event in the Japanese embassy in Berlin.

Christian Bau is married to Yildiz Bau, who runs the restaurant service. The couple have two daughters.
