Christian Karl Barth
Christian Karl Barth (born November 23, 1775 in Bayreuth , † October 8, 1853 in Erlangen ) was a German historian .
After finishing his school days at the academic high school Christian-Ernestinum in his hometown, Barth began to study law at the University of Jena ; In 1794 he moved to the University of Erlangen with the same subject .
After successfully completing his studies, Barth got a job in the administration of the Principality of Bayreuth ; mainly at various tax authorities. In 1817 his career took him to Speyer as government director of the Rhine District . He only held this office for one year, as he was appointed to the rank of Ministerial Councilor in Munich as early as 1818 . At the request of the Bavarian King Maximilian I Joseph , the state administration was restructured and Barth was instrumental in introducing the new financial legislation.
Sickly for some time, Barth resigned all his offices in 1829 and submitted his farewell to King Ludwig I. This dismissed him with the appointment to a privy councilor . Barth withdrew into private life and settled in Erlangen. There he soon made a name for himself in society; u. a. as a successful board member of the Harmonie Society and as a benefactor.
Christian Karl Barth died seven weeks before his 78th birthday on October 8, 1853 in Erlangen, where he also found his final resting place.

His main work is: "Deutschlands Urgeschichte" (Hof 1818–1820, 2 vols .; new revised edition 1840–1846, 5 vols.), A work of comprehensive and thorough research, in which not only the history of the German people but rather that of the German country is also told. In the work he argues in favor of considering the Germanic peoples as part of the Celts, similar to Adolf Holtzmann later .
Other works Barths criticize organized priesthood which, in alliance with the aristocracy religion as an instrument of power used and examines European original religion of the World Mother (1828), a belief in the divinity ( "... [that] in the deepest reason is the same God is who rules over and in people. "(vi).
