Christoph G. Grimmer

Christoph Gerrit Grimmer (born September 27, 1985 in Crailsheim ) is a German local politician and has been Lord Mayor of the large district town of Crailsheim since February 1, 2018 . Before moving into politics , he worked as a scientist , non-fiction author , lecturer and journalist .

Life

Grimmer studied sports science in Hamburg from 2005 to 2009, specializing in media and journalism. During this time he completed internships a. a. on Sky Germany , Sport1 , NDR television , kicker sports magazine , Sport Bild and the Hamburger Abendblatt . From 2007 to 2013 he also worked as a freelancer for the German Press Agency . In 2013 he obtained his doctorate from the University of Hamburg with a study on the employment relationship between press spokespersons in the Bundesliga and journalists. From 2007 to 2009 he received a scholarship from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom , and from 2010 to 2012 from the Hamburg State Graduate Fund.

In parallel to his doctoral studies, Grimmer worked for three semesters as a freelance lecturer for the Macromedia University in Hamburg from the winter semester 2010 onwards . He started there in September 2012 as a research assistant in the journalism course . In March 2013, Grimmer moved to the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and worked as a lecturer, author and editor in the field of sports communication. At the same time, he was a guest lecturer in the sports management course at the University of Molde ( Norway ) and in 2015 and 2016 in an advisory capacity for VfL Wolfsburg . Grimmer has given lectures in Germany, Denmark, Dublin and the USA and published around 50 book chapters, journal articles and books. Media such as B. Deutschlandfunk , Die Zeit , Focus , WDR 3 or Südwestpresse consult Grimmer as experts for his assessment of reports on the subject of sports communication.

In October 2016, after three and a half years in Tübingen, Grimmer switched to political communication . Here he worked as deputy press spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group in the Hamburg Parliament and personal advisor to the then parliamentary group leader and now member of the Bundestag, Katja Suding . In November 2017 he prevailed in the election for mayor of Crailsheim in the first ballot with 56.9 percent of the vote against eleven competitors. He is chairman of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Crailsheim and Fränkische Wasser Service GmbH. He is also a deputy member of the Board of Directors of Sparkasse Schwäbisch Hall-Crailsheim . In the local elections in 2019 , he was also elected to the Schwäbisch Hall district council as the candidate with the most votes by far .
