Christophe Dumaux (born 1979 ) is a French countertenor .

life and career

Christophe Dumaux originally studied singing and cello at the Conservatory of Châlons-en-Champagne , before moving to the Conservatoire de Paris in Paris in 2000 . In July 2002, at the age of 22, he made his debut - as Eustazio in Handel's Rinaldo - at the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier. This production under the musical direction of René Jacobs was later seen at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music and at the Berlin State Opera .

Since then, Dumeaux has sung as a soloist with leading baroque ensembles , including William Christie's Le Jardin des Voix , Les Arts Florissants , Emmanuelle Haïms Le Concert d'Astrée and Il Combattimento Consort (Amsterdam).

In 2003 he made his US debut at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston , South Carolina in the title role of Handel's Tamerlano . Important role debuts at important opera houses followed: in 2004 Giuliano in Cavallis Eliogabalo at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and Ottone in Handel's Agrippina at the Santa Fe Opera , in 2005 Ottone in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea at the Opéra National de Paris and the Tolomeo in Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto at the Glyndebourne Festival , in 2006 finally Unulfo in Handel's Rodelinda at the New York Metropolitan Opera . As a Handel specialist, he also sings the title roles Sosarme and Orlando , as well as Armindo in Agrippina .

In 2009 Dumeaux sang Hamor in Jephtha under the musical direction of Ivor Bolton and directed by Jonathan Duverger and Jean-Marie Villégier at the Strasbourg Opera and The Voice of Apollo in Britten's Death in Venice at the Theater an der Wien . In 2010 he made his debut at De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam in a new production by Francesco Bartolomeo Contis Don Chisciotte in Sierra Morena and at the Vlaamse Opera in the title role of Francesco Cavallis Giasone . In 2011 Christophe Dumaux returned to the Opéra National de Paris for two new productions : as Akhmatova in Bruno Mantovani and as Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare . In the same year he made his debut in the title roles of Giulio Cesare in Versailles and Rinaldo in Glyndebourne . Both productions received excellent reviews.

At the Salzburg Whitsun Festival in 2012 he sang Tolomeo again - this time alongside Cecilia Bartoli and three other famous countertenors ( Jaroussky , Kowalski , Scholl ). This production was also shown at the Salzburg Festival in August 2012. In November 2012 Dumeaux made his debut at the Zurich Opera House . In 2013 he sang again at the Theater an der Wien, at the Met, in Paris, Madrid and Zurich.
