The district of Héroes Albarracín is located in the province of Tarata in the Tacna region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on January 30, 1953. It was named in honor of Colonel Gregorio Albarracín and his son Ensign Rufino Albarracín, as well as his comrades who died in the Battle of Saucini during the Pacific War .

The district has an area of ​​378 km². The 2017 census counted 335 residents. In 1993 the population was 432, in 2007 it was 559. The district administration is located in the 2325  m high village of Chucatamani with 144 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chucatamani is located 9.5 km west of the provincial capital Tarata .

Geographical location

The district of Héroes Albarracín is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica in the southwest of the province of Tarata. The Río Sama crosses the district in a westerly direction.

The district of Héroes Albarracín borders in the southwest with the district Inclán ( province Tacna ), in the northwest with the districts Curibaya and Quilahuani (both in the province Candarave ), in the north with the district Sitajara , in the northeast with the districts Ticaco , Tarata and Tarucachi as well in the southeast to the Estique Pampa district .
