Coco the Curious Monkey (Original title: Curious George ) is an American cartoon from 2006 .

action

The man in the yellow hat named Ted Shakleford works as a museum guide in a natural history museum that is clearly lacking in visitors. The museum director's son wants to convert the museum into a parking garage, but Ted aims to get a large mystical statue from Africa, the "Shrine of Zagawa", which according to museum director Bloomsberry should attract a lot of people. Unfortunately for him, the statue turns out to be tiny. A little lonely monkey, which was given the name Coco only a short time later, is accidentally taken home by Ted. At this point, an action-packed, fun-filled journey through the wonders of the big city begins with friendship as your destination.

With Coco's help, Ted finds out that the small statue, when exposed to sunlight, creates a treasure map that actually leads to the large "Shrine of Zagawa". The shrine is found, exhibited in the museum and attracts many new visitors. Coco stays with Ted.

background

The film was originally intended as a mix between real and cartoon, until the developers decided on pure animation. In 2001 Pixar director Brad Bird completed a first script.

Director Matthew O'Callaghan was particularly pleased with Dick Van Dyke's dubbing : “I was amazed to learn that [Dick Van Dyke] had never dubbed a cartoon character before. I was blown away, so I said "great" because as a director you want interesting, fresh people on the cast who have never had any previous experience in the genre - at least that's what I want. "

The project was at Imagine Entertainment since probably 1992 in development hell .

The film was released in 2,566 theaters on February 10, 2006 and grossed $ 14,703,405 on the first weekend . The film grossed $ 58.3 million in the United States and $ 11.4 million overseas (totaling $ 69.8), which turned out to be an unexpected hit.

Due to the unexpected success, a television series and a sequel were produced.
