geography
location
The community association was located in the area of the Burgundian Gate (French: Porte d'Alsace ) or the Sundgau about 15 to 30 kilometers (as the crow flies) southwest of the city of Mulhouse and about 20 to 30 kilometers east of Belfort . The Rhine-Rhône Canal ran right through the area of the association of municipalities, while the A36 and E54 motorway to the north passed it.
landscape
The landscape of the former Communauté de communes is characterized by fields and - partly wooded - hills at heights between 270 and 410 meters above sea level. d. M.
climate
The climate is determined by both southern French influences and the northwestern foothills of the Alps . The summer day temperatures reach maximum values of 30 to 35 ° C. Snow sometimes falls in winter, but it rarely remains for long periods of time; the daytime temperatures rarely move in the frost range.
economy
All 32 member communities of the former Communauté de communes are largely characterized by agriculture (arable farming, cattle breeding and dairy farming) and small-scale crafts. There are no larger industrial companies in the region, but industrial areas ( Zones d'Activités ) have been designated near the towns of Dannemarie, Hagenbach and Diefmatten .
Attractions
The slightly hilly and largely forested landscape is ideal for hiking. There are no monuments of supraregional cultural and historical importance. The village churches of Saint-Cosme and Gildwiller as well as the neo-baroque chapel of the monastery of the 'Benedictine Sisters in Adoration' of Bellemagny are worth seeing.
