geography

The central part of the area of the former Communauté de communes du Pays d'Ornans is occupied by the Loue valley. It drains the area to the west to the Doubs and is cut 200 to 400 m deep into the surrounding plateaus and heights. The Loue has a number of short side streams, the erosion valleys of which are also sunk deep into the plateaus. The steep valley slopes are lined at their upper edge in many places by a ledge made of resilient limestone, which is particularly prominent in protruding terrain. The Loue valley is flanked in the southwest by the Amancey plateau and in the northeast by the Valdahon plateau. Both plateaus are around 600 to 700 m above sea level and rise slightly towards the southeast. Its south-eastern demarcation forms with the Malveau anticline a ridge of the Folded Jura , which reaches a height of 930 m. While the ridge and the steep valley slopes are predominantly forested, the plateaus are used for agriculture (especially dairy farming and cattle breeding, in lower elevations also arable farming). The area of the community association almost coincided with that of the canton of Ornans . Exceptions are the communities of Guyans-Durnes, Voires and Longeville, which belong to the canton but were not part of the community association.

tasks

The tasks of the community association included the creation of jobs, economic development, the cross-community coordination of industrial zones, garbage disposal, drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment, the construction and maintenance of cultural and sporting facilities, the development and promotion of tourism, nature conservation, the public service and the primary school system.
